Cancer in Lymph Nodes?

drichards2 asked:

If cancer is in the lymph nodes what does this mean? I’ve always heard that once it’s in the lymph nodes that it usually means you’ve got it all over your body. Can someone please let me know?

  3. SB Says:

Cancer can develop in the lymph nodes in two ways. It can either start there as a primary cancer, or it can spread into the lymph nodes from a primary cancer elsewhere in the body. If cancer spreads into the lymph nodes from another part of the body, this is known as secondary or metastatic cancer. Cancer that starts in the lymph nodes themselves is called lymphoma.

yea SB is correct.it may be either cancer of lymphnodes or metastasis from other cancer,if its metastasis, its dangerous.

Breast cancer can be in the lymph nodes and NOT be considered metastasis. Stage 2 and 3 breast cancer can involve lymph nodes. Stage 4 breast cancer is mets breast cancer.

I had grade 3 stage 3 breast cancer, which had spread to 13 lymph nodes.

I had surgery, chemo and rads, and so far, four years later, there is no sign that it has spread to anywhere else - that is, I do not have secondary/metastatic cancer. I had no evidence of disease (NED) at my last routine check up.

I had cancer cells in 5 of 10 lymph nodes removed during my mast. Also something is on my spleen, possibly cancer, no bio done on it. Too risky during my surg. and treatments. But to answer your q, Your immune systems could be compromised. IT DOESN’T NECESSARLY mean that its in your entire body. I had a bone scan done, LOTS of blood work, CT scan, even a scan of my head. So far so good. Plus every case is different.
