Even though we have been lectured on bad effects of smoking for over forty years, the sad truth has yet reached the ears of all smokers. Even worse, as thousands of people take up smoking every year, many of them even before they turn 21, this addiction is far from being cured.

Everyone probably knows that smoking damages one’s health, appearance, and image. It is dangerous to your family and workmates (if you smoke at work), inhaling smoke is not a pleasant feeling, and your clothes and you start to stink to heavens after only a few weeks of smoking. However, this is only the beginning of what happens to smokers. The whole truth is known only to few people - not because it’s secret, but because it is so hard to believe in all bad things we do to ourselves by smoking.

Smoking Kills. Really

The facts can’t be contested. Every year there are over four hundred thousand casualties of smoking a year in the United States alone. This is almost a hundred times more than died at the WTC attack and ten times more than the US has lost during the 6-year war with terrorism. The moment a smoker lits his or her cigarette, he or she inhales almost five thousand dangerous chemicals. 69 of those compounds are known to be carcinogenic. The risk is practical - over three quarters of lung cancer fatalities in the US is the direct effect of smoking.

Heart diseases are another problems caused or at least strengthened by the cigarette smoke. Strokes and coronary health illnesses are but two examples of a much wider notion. The chances of having a stroke increases greatly both for cigarette smokers and the second-hand smokers who only breathe in the smoke for other people’s cigarettes.

Another problem is the health of children. If a woman smokes during pregnancy, or if she spends a lot of time around smokers, the child will probably develop heart problems and smaller lungs. To tell the truth, this is not even a chance, but a certainty. Those children who apparently do not suffer from such problems had a potential of being extremely healthy sportsmen. They lost that chance only because their mothers inhaled cigarette smoke.

Smokers’ deaths are only the beginning…

Most smokers however will claim that all those risks of death are just a chance, and they are ready to take it for the cigarette’s sake. The problem is that some bad thing happen to every smoker. You may live for a long time even if you’re a chain-smoker. However, you will look like a death warmed up for the better part of your life - and this can’t be helped. It’s not the statistics, it is the real life.

The teeth are the first victim of smoking. As the cigarette smoke tar sticks to the teeth, it changes their color into an ugly yellowish shade of brown. At the same time cigarette smoke prevents blood from nourishing the gums, slowly but inevitably making them weak. This may effect in swelling and mouth inflammation, but most importantly it makes gums to grow weaker and weaker with every passing year, making it impossible for them to act as the teeth support.

Change of color however, is only the first sign of coming problems. On average 18-year-old smokers lose five teeth before they turn 35. Other dental problems are also sad reality, especially that smoking slows down the healing process as inhaling the smoke prevents blood from circulating freely in the gums and mouth. Effect? Every extraction bears a real risk of the so-called dry-socket - a week of excruciating pain and great risk of infection. The risk is carried by both first- and second-hand smokers (though the latter are in slightly better position).

Compared to teeth loss and dry-socket problems other “niceties” of smoking look trivial. Nevertheless, they are also infuriating as well as 100% sure to show up. The changes include losing color by your skin, thinning of hair and its breaking off, and the terrible stink surrounding you, your clothes and your stuff. Even though you may not notice it at first - the change takes months and it’s not easy to spot a difference building up during so long time - other people will see it for sure. So, if you notice that people start distance from you during parties or try not to sit next to you, it is probably either due to the odor they smell or to your weary and unattractive look. Either way, do not blame them - you have done it to yourself.

Now you know everything. The dark side of smoking: a few hundred thousand deaths, teeth problems, loss of good appearance and stink. Everyone with at least something between ears can do only one thing: stop smoking! While the withdrawal symptoms may be painful especially for heavy smokers, Cig-Arette is able to give them a hand and minimize negative sides of giving up. The nutritional supplements it contains will improve your health condition in no time.

People that spend a lot of time outdoors for work or other activities or have a skin type that is sensitive to the sun are advised to be screened for skin cancer at least once a year. During this screening they will be checked out for any changes in the skin that look suspicious. Along with supervised screening it makes sense to screen yourself from time to time for any moles or blemishes that have appeared. Your chances of identifying potential problems are improved if you know a bit about the disease. This article will cover the three types of skin cancer detailing the characteristics of each and possible treatments.

There are 3 types of skin cancers. The first two are the most commonly diagnosed types of the disease. They are also the most treatable because in most cases the disease does not spread but is localized to a particular part of the body. They are easily treated in most cases however on rare occasions they may spread making early diagnose all the more important.

Basal Cell Carcinoma

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer. It will normally manifest as a waxy bump on the skin. It may also appear as a flesh or brown colored mark. It is typically found on the face, neck, chest and back but can occur anywhere on the body.

As most cases of basal cell carcinoma are benign and do not spread to other parts of the body treatment is relatively easy and effective. The bump or mark is simply cut out or frozen and removed. This can be done in 30 minutes at a doctor’s surgery.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Squamous Cell Carcinoma is similar to basal cell carcinoma and has the same methods for treatment. However it is more liable to spread than the other type and therefore needs to be treated immediately it is diagnosed.

Squamous cell carcinomas are noticeable as a red nodule or bump that can appear on the face, neck, hands or arms. On rare occasions it can appear on the lips or ears. The bump is generally firm to the touch. In more advanced stages it may appear as a scaly, crusty lesion that will appear where the bump used to be. Again, provided it has not spread it can be cut out or frozen.

Melanoma

Melanoma is the least common of the 3 types of skin cancer however it is the most serious of the three, especially if it goes undiagnosed or untreated. Of the three it is most likely to spread to other parts of the body, including the lymph nodes and vital organs of the body. If this occurs (known as metastasizes) then it becomes difficult to treat and may involve chemotherapy and other aggressive treatments. Early detection is crucial for a melanoma but they are often very hard to identify. This is why it is important to get a screen once a year by a professional in the diagnose of skin cancer.

It is important to be aware of the three types of skin cancer as you can be alerted to any potential skin problems with this knowledge. However it is far better to prevent skin cancer from occurring than ever having to go through a procedure to remove skin cancers. Prevention means limiting your exposure to ultraviolet rays either by avoiding them or wearing some form of protection against them.

The symptoms of Mesothelioma (a form of cancer) can take between 20 and 50 years to develop. Unfortunately, this delay can prevent the discovery of the disease and result in wrong diagnoses. The beginning signs are like many other illnesses, such as colds or the flu, and, as a result, can be rejected . Another quality of mesothelioma is respiratory problems, such as pain in the chest and difficulty breathing. The three forms of mesothelioma each have a little bit different symptoms.

Pleural Mesothelioma effusion, develops, coming after a pleural effusion, a buildup of fluid in the pleura of the chest, which often cause symptoms, such as the following: respiratory complaints, the difficulties with swallowing disorders, shortness of breath, persistent cough, weight loss, fever, cough Blood, rasping, and pain in the chest.

The signs of peritoneal mesothelioma, a cancer of the mucous membrane of the abdomen, include weight loss, and a bump and abdominal pain (which are because of ascites - fluid in the abdominal cavity), and blood clotting disorders, intestinal occlusion, anemia and fever.

Lastly, the rarest form of mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma, includes mild to severe pain in the chest, palpitations, a persistent unrelenting cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue.

For the diagnosis, whether it be the symptoms of a patient with any of the mentioned mesothelioma, when compared to other forms of cancer is a little less difficult o diagnose, an X-ray or ultrasound examination can be used. If the results of these methods are not conclusive, a biopsy can resolve if cancer is there or not. As of now, there is no cure for mesothelioma. Research and clinical trials are in progress.

Please note. I am not a medical doctor and this is not medical advice but just the passing on of information I have gathered from several sources on the net. If you believe you may have mesothelioma you should consult a licensed medical doctor immediately

Alternative Cancer Treatment

Cancer can be a scary thing and it cannot be cured in every case, but there are alternative cancer treatments available that can complement traditional therapies like chemotherapy, radiation, and pharmaceuticals that don’t have near the debilitating side effects. In some cases, it is true that the treatment is worse than the disease. Cancer treatments have progressed in the past few years, but most people that undergo traditional cancer treatment experience side effects such as weight loss, lack of appetite, hair loss, or secondary infections that take over due to immune system suppression. These side effects and complications can range from mild to very serious, and depend on a lot of different factors. Each individual has a unique experience with cancer and the treatment regimens prescribed. Some experience horrific side effects, and others tolerate it quite well and suffer very little from treatment, and many don’t even know that alternative cancer treatments are available.

Most alternative cancer treatments have few or no side effects and work well as an adjunct to current therapeutic regimens, which is why it is a viable and attractive option to people who are looking for a different approach in treating their disease. Of course, there are many scams and alternative treatment therapies out there that are nothing but placebos, which could do a person more harm than good. If you or a loved one are considering an alternative cancer treatment, be sure to research it thoroughly first before you commit. Keep in mind that most traditional cancer treatment specialists will not have much good to say about alternative cancer treatments and vice versa. This attitude reflects the traditional Western approach to medicine, that diseases must be cured by manufactured pharmaceuticals and toxic chemical treatments only, aside from the fact that these treatment modalities may be more detrimental in the long run and not eradicate the cancer completely. Don’t get me wrong, many cancer patients have had good outcomes using traditional science and cancer treatments, but unfortunately this is not the case for everyone, and what type of hell did these people go through during their treatment, and were they aware of alternative cancer treatments?

Alternative cancer treatments are another viable option available to people who suffer from most any type of cancer at any stage. Some people have had amazing results, which isn’t to say that everyone will, but the option is there. For more in depth information on alternative cancer treatments visit www.alternative-cancer-treatments.com, www.quackwatch.org, www.immunemedicine.com, www.cancertutor.com, www.cancer.org, and www.cancersociety.com. If you or a loved one is diagnosed with cancer, learn all you can about the all treatment options available, including alternative cancer treatments.
