A good skin care regimen has nothing to do with the latest makeup tips. Your skin is a mirror that reflects the qualities of your inner health. No amount of make-up can hide the look of unhealthy skin. Healthy skin is attractive even without makeup.

The good skin care regimen starts with you taking care of yourself from the inside. Eat fruits and vegetables and drink purified water. This will improve the moisture of your skin, as well as improving your general health. Moisture is what you need to make your skin firm and elastic.

Don’t forget to exercise or your skin will sag. Working your cardiovascular system and building muscle tone is important but do not forget to also exercise your insides. Tie Chi and Yoga squeeze you intestines, liver, and gallbladder. Tie Chi and Yoga are great for this; they move your insides around and work your organs together. Your insides feed you skin and if your insides are not healthy your skin will not be healthy.

Especially important is your intestines. Don’t eat meat, meat slows your digestion and makes it harder for your body to flush out toxins. Never eat hydrogenated oils like margarine. Don’t smoke, it turns your skin yellow. Stay away from alcohol. Alcohol makes the liver work when it should not have to. This keeps it from doing the job of removing toxins. Toxins build up and sit in your fat, organs and your skin.

Get an ample amount of vitamin A. The body requires vitamin A every day to preserve healthy skin. Lack of vitamin B2 may result in oily skin and hair, and premature wrinkles. Nutritional yeast and wheat germ are good places to get vitamin B2 in your diet. Vitamin E and vitamin C have antioxidant properties; they help in preventing skin damage.

Herbs for Your Skin Drink herbal teas made from red clover, dandelion root, burdock, and echinacea to clean the blood. All these herbs are found in extracts at your health food store. You can also get these herbs by the ounce at most health food stores. Red clover is better fresh, it makes a good ice tea just by itself. Goldenseal is a great internal cleanser but it does not make a good tea, it is better to take it in a capsule form.

Alfalfa is an herb that you can take every day for a lifetime. Alfalfa is nutritionous and a cleanser that removes toxins from the body Alfalfa provides beta-carotene and vitamins C, E, and K. Alfalfa roots grow deep, they pick up high concentrations of nutrients not always found in the surface soils. This can supply the trace minerals that are lacking in most diets. Alfalfa sprouts are in groceries and salad bars or you can sprout your own. You can find alfalfa leaves and seeds in capsules or tables as well as the bulk powdered herb in most health food stores.

Learn to make your own natural skin care products. Here are a few skin natural skin care products you can make yourself to get you started.

Aloe vera gel straight from the plant on your skin is a wonderful natural skin care product. If you do not have a plant, jell from a bottle is great both internally and externally. Half a cup of aloe vera juice twice a day with your favorite juice will do wonders for your insides. Do not take internally if you are pregnant. When you stress out and need an herb bath put a leaf in the freezer for 30 minutes to get it cold. When taking your hot bath pull the leaf open and rub it on your face to cool you down. It soothes the skin on contact. Add aloe vera juice or jell to orange or grape juice, an organic banana and a little ice and blend in a blender. This is a good drink to cool you down and sooth the mind.

To make a salve, remove the thin outer skin and blind the leaves in a blender, add 500 units of vitamin C powder to each cup add a tablespoon of honey to help preserve. It is best to use fresh but you can store it in your refrigerator for a couple weeks. This salve is great for skin.

Honey is also a natural skin care product. A natural skin care recipe using honey is to make a cup of oatmeal, just like you would for breakfast. While the oatmeal is thickening and cooling down, mix in 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of plain or strawberry yogurt and the juice squeezed from one lemon. Lemon contains natural astringents. This should form a good paste. Apply a layer to your face, avoiding the eyelids. If you get any in your eyes, rinse it out with warm water. After it dries wash it off with warm water, follow with cold water.

You can mash just about anything into oatmeal and smear it on your skin. Make sure it is something natural and good for you and the oatmeal has cooled down. Always start with honey and fresh lemon juice.

You can add avocado, avocado oil, olive oil, fresh strawberries, any fruit yogurt and just about any kind of essential oil.

Play around with it and see what you like. It is important you test your skin before you try anything new. You do not want to wash the oatmeal mask off and look at yourself in the mirror and see a face full of bright red blotches. Use a little caution.

Be sure to practice organic skin care as much as you can. Organic skin care just means you read the labels to make sure the ingredients are labeled organic. It also means shopping for fruits and vegetables that are organic.

Suffer No Jet Lag

by Diane Kelly

Physiological & biochemical processes of the body get adjusted to a 24-hour periodicity of daylight and darkness and follow a rhythm which is generally known as body clock. When a person travels across a number of time zones in a short period of time, the body processes cannot get synchronized with the daylight-darkness periodicity of the destination and the body processes get disoriented. This condition is generally known as jetlag.

Persons traveling long distances by jet aircrafts commonly face this condition and hence the name jetlag. For some people their working conditions create an environment which has a different rhythm of body activities effectively creating a different daylight-darkness cycle. Persons who work in night shifts for long periods or work for long hours at a stretch for a number of days are common victims of this condition and suffer jetlag.

The common symptoms of being jet lagged are inability to concentration, being confused or forgetful and being irritable. Loss of appetite, mild depression and disturbed sleep pattern are also observed. Swollen or uncomfortable feet, dehydration, etc. may occur in some cases.

In case of travel it is the time zones crossed and not the length of the flight-time that matters. For instance Johannesburg to Frankfurt journey which is in the same time zone (since they lie along the same meridian) would cause no jet lag. It may cause tiredness or headache due to the length of time spent sitting up or due to low cabin pressure but no jet lag.

A New York to Los Angeles journey, however, may cause jetlag since it does involve crossing time zones. Jetlag effects can be quite severe in areas near north and south poles where there are extreme periods of daylight or darkness depending on the time of year,

You can take a few precautions to avoid being severely jet lagged. A good night’s sleep prior to a journey, having light meals and drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluid in the aircraft helps in reducing the jetlag effects. Remove your shoes and stretch your legs to avoid swelling of the feet. Take some exercise like walking up and down the aisle, stretching, etc. to avoid discomfort.

Some people believe that drugs such as Melatonin can help in avoiding the jetlag; it is required to be taken at specific times for a few days starting with a couple of days before the journey and continuing for a few days after the journey is over. Research does not support this anti jetlag claim and on the contrary, in some cases, it may lead to worsening the effect of jetlag. In UK it is banned.

Some people mistakenly believe that sleeping pills help you get over the jetlag; you are strongly advised against it as it can cause other complications. There are anti-jetlag diets. But following the diet for a number of days is a cumbersome process and not very practical solution. “No Jet Lag”, a homeopathic drug, is said to be effective and being homeopathic medicine it is stated to be free of side effects.

Almost everyone is looking for a sure way to lose weight and gain muscle mass at the same time, but it can be hard to tell the different between scams and actual proven methods. It doesn’t have to take hours at the gym to achieve the body you have always dreamed of, and equipment sold on infomercials shouldn’t be trusted either.

The best way to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time is to focus on your entire body, which is what interval training actually does. Instead of trying to run for hours a week and notice only a change in your legs, you should focus on training all of the different muscle groups in order to lose weight evenly throughout your entire body.

The way that interval training works is to gradually build the difficulty of workouts instead of jumping right into an intense exercise regimen. Using this system you can choose from among exercises which will target the major muscle groups or mix it up and target many different muscle groups simultaneously. This variation leads to much better results than doing the same workouts all the time.

The shorter recovery time in between workouts is one of the biggest benefits of interval training. Instead of conventional workouts which can leave you feeling too sore and exhausted to repeat the regimen for as long as a week, interval training uses an incremental approach which lets you recover faster and be ready to workout again sooner.

Of course one of the biggest selling points for interval training is that the routines are legitimately fun and engaging to do. You don’t have to trudge over to the treadmill or Stairmaster for yet another hour long misery session. You can switch up the exercises you do from day to day or week to up to keep things exciting. The important thing to realize is that you just have to pick appropriate exercises to target the body parts you want.

By speeding up your metabolism without you having to work out for hours every time, interval training tells your body to start losing weight by exercising different muscle groups in each workout. This stimulates your metabolism, causing you to lose weight in a way which is both healthy and quick.

With interval training you also get many of the benefits that you would with a classic cardiovascular workout. The benefit is you can do it in a fraction of the time and with much more variation. Due to the nature of interval training your breathing rate and heart rate increase greatly, giving both a solid workout and improving your resting rates with both.

Interval training isn’t just a new fad or weight loss scam, but an actual way to lose unwanted fat and gain back muscle mass. By performing low impact exercises that work on the same or several muscle groups, you can burn off fat and tone your muscles at the same time. It won’t leave the muscles sore and unable to work, but will provide even better results than any cardio exercise ever could.

A brief histroy of Hypnosis
icon1 Robert J Micheals | icon2 Other - Health | icon4 09 27th, 2008| icon3No Comments »
by Robert J Micheals

The dictionary definition of hypnosis is “a trancelike state that resembles sleep but is induced by a person whose suggestions are readily accepted by the subject.” Hypnotism, however caused, involves an element of suggestibility, and this idea of controlling the behavior of another is one of those things that gives hypnosis its allure and its colourful history.

Hypnosis An Early History

Hypnosis can be traced back to prehistoric Indian and Egyptian societies. Who treated their sick by taking the patient to a sleep temple, where hypnotic incantations were used to put the patient in a sleep-like state. Between 1400 and 1700, many early hypnotic healers used suggestibility and the power of magnets to heal individuals afflicted by a variety of ailments.

Modern Medicine Pays Attention

Western doctors began paying attention to the field of hypnosis in about 1770, although it was called “mesmerism” at the time. Austrian physician Dr. Franz Mesmer conducted experiments that showed patients’ blood clotted as quickly when a magnet passed over the wound as when the patient was told that a magnet was passing over the wound but the mesmerist actually passed a stick over the wound. Of course, Mesmer’s theory relies on the perhaps flawed assumption that passing a magnet over a wound causes the blood to clot.

In the early 19th century, Indo-Portuguese priest Abbe Faria introduced a form of hypnosis that he said “generated from within the mind” by the intense expectations and suggestibility of the patient. In 1821, Recamier used hypnosis as a form of anesthesia and operated on patients under a “mesmeric coma.”

The term hypnosis was coined by the eminent Scottish neurosurgeon Dr. James Braid in 1842, who also helped to develop the hypnotic procedure as we know it today. It was Dr. Braid who introduced the idea of a spinning watch into hypnosis culture, believing that watching a bright moving object over a prolonged period creates a physiological, trance-like response.

Modern Hypnosis

Russian medicine thoroughly developed the field of obstetric hypnosis, culminating in the Lamaze method of childbirth, where hypnotic suggestion was used to manage pain during childbirth. Lamaze claimed his method was more reflex-driven than hypnotic, but it remains popular with expectant parents today.

After World War II, psychology merged with hypnosis, and this blend was used to treat patients for post traumatic stress disorder. Another blended treatment involved Pavlov’s classical conditioning, in which Pavlov had induced pigeons into an altered psychological state. Besides easing pain in childbirth, hypnosis today is used to help patients stop smoking, lose weight, treat drug addiction, and also change other destructive behaviors that are subject to suggestibility during hypnosis.

Are you one of those people that carefully watch everything they eat or someone that can and does eat everything that is given to them? For instance, do you eat anything and everything even if it is out of date? They spot the sugary treat, the heart starts pounding, its snatched up and wolfed down. Well, you are one of a growing number that like this type of instant pleasure only acquired by eating you really should start considering health supplements.

I know that may have sounded somewhat graphic but if you are one of those affected you will understand although I have to caution anyone about consuming food like this. Perhaps it’s time you started thinking about looking after yourself with some health supplements. Now don’t shy away, it’s not as bad as it seems and there is good deal of nutrition in these foods. I always get angry when people tell me that they hate the stuff, and yet they’ve never tried it!

I have always been a believer of trying something before I say I don’t like it. The powdered health supplements I take are great with a variety of tastes and they contain essential minerals to boot. I have been taking some form of food supplement for years now including a good multivitamin that contains more essential vitamins than I can remember. It wouldn’t hurt everyone to take a vitamin supplement everyday and it’s so easy to do, just swallow it with your meal, now how hard is that?

The second health supplement is a whey protein shake which I started taking a little while back. I sometimes find it hard to believe just how much protein there can be in a drink like this. It’s also easy and very convenient to drink, in the morning and at lunch time. The other benefit is that they add about 30 grams of protein which really benefits muscle growth.

Health supplements these days are just crammed with everything good for you that the body needs but doesn’t always get from food, but nothing that is bad for you. The things you don’t want are cholesterol, sugar, saturated fat and salt, we all get enough of these things as it is. So take a look on the internet and do a little checking because I can guarantee you will feel better for taking health supplements, in fact they could give you a whole new lease of life!

Part-4 When you decide that it is time to start working out, start slowly and do not get discouraged if you do not achieve your fitness goals immediately or after the first week. A lot of people make this mistake. They feel that if they push their bodies harder they can lose more weight in a couple of work outs. This is a very serious thing and this must be avoided at all times. If you try to push your body too much in the first few goes, you end up with sprained joints, a sore or bad back and even torn ligaments. The golden rule to be followed here is slow and steady and achieve your goal sooner and it will be permanent.

Aerobics are very useful when you are determined to lose the extra unwanted pounds from your body muscles. It is a kind of rhythmic exercise that enables or empower you to move your body following the rhythm of the background music. It helps in boosting or enhancing your muscular activities and physical or physiological capacities.

Aerobic exercise can be cardiovascular exercise that is maintained for a long time. This could be 25- 30 minutes of walking, running, in-line skating, even time on the rowing machine. Aerobic exercise relates to physical workouts that require oxygen delivered to the muscles (via the lungs and blood supply) over an extended period . Aerobic training is often called “cardio” exercise because it strengthens the cardiovascular (heart) and respiratory (lungs) systems

Swimming is very popular with people who are carrying excessive weight, pregnant, or suffering from any kind of injury. Swimming is regarded as one of the best exercises to lose weight and to build and tone the muscles. All your major muscles are called into action when you swim.

Walking helps cultivate relationships, makes one forget worries, and relaxe the mind. It aids digestion .Walking is always a good one to start with. We use many muscles while walking, walking stimulates the brain, and helps the blood flow evenly throughout the body.

Walking at a moderate pace yields longer workouts with less soreness - leading to more miles and more fat worked off on a regular basis. High intensity walks (extreme degree of strength, force or energy) on alternate days help condition one’s system

Another good weight loss exercise is stationary cycling, it functions in a similar way as walking, while impacting or effecting the body metabolism rate and fat burning at a faster rate.

If you have this exercise bicycle at your own home, you can enjoy it while watching movie or listening music. You can do it in your own free time, while burning some extra calories from your body.

Natural Acne Skin Care

by Herb B. Lewis

This article will help you in taking control of your acne. There is no such thing as a perfect acne treatment for everyone, you need to find what works best for you. I hope everyone can benefit from this advice, whether you are suffering from mild or severe acne.

What causes acne? Sebaceous glands in your skin secrete an oil called sebum. Sebum protects skin from bacteria, keeps too much water from evaporating from the skin, and this oil gives your hair shine.

Your skin will dry out if you do not have enough oil. Natural skin oils are necessary to achieve a healthy glow. Oil protects the skin and helps keep it from wrinkle prematurely. The problem comes in when you have too much oil. Too much oil leads to larger than normal pores and oil attracts dirt that can clog pores.

Sebaceous glands make just the right amount of sebum most of the time. Sometimes the glands secrete too much sebum. When a pore clogges up with too much sebum, dead skin cells, toxins and the right kinds of germs you can have acne.

Not everyone with oily skin gets acne; it takes more than just too much sebum. A mixture of excess sebum and toxins in the blood and lymph, work together to create an environment that bacterium can live in. The overgrowth of bacteria is what causes the redness, inflammation, swelling, puss and clogged pores.

The best acne skin care is to wash your face enough to keep the pores from getting clogged. Wash your face once or twice a day with warm water and a mild soap or cleanser. This is to prevent oil buildup. When you wash don’t scrub your face. Scrubbing can irritate your skin. Wash your face gently. Don’t touch your face after you are wash and don’t pick, squeeze, or pop pimples.

Do not wash your face more than two or three times a day, or you will stimulate your glands to produce more oil. If your face feels dry your glands will produce more oil. There are many creams and soaps to help prevent acne and clear it up. You can try different ones to see which helps. Use a pure soap without harsh artificial additives. If you need to, try a lightly medicated soap. Use hot water when washing your face then finish with cold water. Always check the ingredients of the oily skin care product you use. Harsh astringents can take too much oil from your skin; you do not want to let your skin dehydrate. When your skin dehydrates your pores close blocking oil flowing out.

Natural Acne Skin Care Spraying Rose water on your face after you wash will help tighten your skin’s pores without overdoing it and it balances the skin’s pH levels. Do not use rose water if your skin is irritated, if you find out you are sensitive stop using it. If your face feels dry after you wash, apply a natural oil free moisturizer to keep your skin from dehydrating. If your face feels dry your glands will produce more oil.

If your skin is sensitive try washing your face in warm salty water or fresh squeezed lemon juice from one lemon with one cup of water. Strain the lemon juice and pour it into a spray bottle, spray your face and let it to dry, and then rinse your face with warm water. Finish with a cold water rinse. This should cut down on the oil without irritating your face. If your face gets too dry from too much washing, try a mixture of just about any mashed melon, Aloe vera gel and cooked oatmeal. Rinse it off with warm water after it dries. Watermelon makes a great natural cleanser crushed and smeared onto the skin; you can use it just by itself or massed up with your favorite fruit yogurt. Wash it off with water after it sits a bit. Be sure to test anything you are going to let set on your face. You want to make sure it will not cause your skin to break out.

If you need to use a medicated treatment benzoyl peroxide is one of the best acne skin care treatments. It is one of the most popular and successful acne cleansers. You can buy it in over-the-counter products, like Clearasil and ProActiv.

Acne and Food The root cause of your acne isn’t the wrong diet but a better diet can have a profound effect on your overall health. Heredity evidently influences acne tendency, and family and ethnic background influence eating patterns. Foods act on people differently, if you are eating the way most Americans eat, you can be sure it has a bad influence on your skin. Everything you eat has an affect on you body. One of the ways your body flushes out toxins is through your skin. Toxins affect people differently some people are better able to deal with them, some people break out.

The medical view is there is no relation between diet and acne. I disagree, from my experience there is absolutely a connection. I understand that bad diet is not the root cause of acne but a bad diet will have an adverse effect. I did my own research in high school; I found that if I ate a couple candy bars and a greasy hamburger with fries, the next day my acne would flair up. Back then it was simple, there was going to be acne, that was a part of life, but if I wanted to have truly bad acne then I would eat bad for a few days. It worked every time.

The Doctors would always say, “there is no relation between diet and acne”. What we need to wake up to is that most, if not all health issues are directly related to or affected by diet.

Acne Skin Care Advice Work with a health care provider that can help you come up with a diet that will help you with your acne skin care. There are many books on this subject, buy them and read them. To get you started here is some basic advice. Cut down on the fat you eat; do not eat fried foods or any foods you know are high fat. Do not cook with or any heat processed oils, use cold pressed canola or olive oil only. Do not drink soft drinks, stay away from sugar, and junk food.

Eat green vegetables and fresh fruits, don’t eat meat, meat slows your digestion and makes it harder for your body to flush out the fats and toxens. Stay away from alcohol. Alcohol makes the liver work harder. This keeps it from doing the job of removing toxins. Toxins build up and sit in your fat, organs and your skin.

Drink enough quality water to keep the skin hydrated and flush out toxins. Moisture makes your skin firm and elastic. Dryness makes your skin look and feel like sandpaper.

Vitamins have been increasingly used as part of a therapy for acne. There are studies that promote the potential benefits of vitamins and try to understand how they work. Make sure you are getting the necessary vitamins and minerals. Get your blood tested; find out what you might lack. If you do not want to get your blood tested, at least take a good multivitamin.

Natural acne skin care involves working with your health care provider, using the right skin care treatments that work best for you to keep your pores from getting clogged. It also involves the right foods and vitamins.

What Causes Stretch Marks?
icon1 Mike Silverstone | icon2 Other - Health | icon4 09 25th, 2008| icon3No Comments »
by Mike Silverstone

It’s widely known that in order to get stretch marks you need to get pregnant. This is considered to be only one reason; you can get these unpleasant marks by many others. Let’s look at some of those reasons that make stretch marks appear. It’s actually far more common than you might imagine, most people just are too shy to talk about it.

One more name for it is striae marks and there are lots of reasons for stretch or striae marks - pregnancy, the rapid weight loss or gain, and natural growth in teenagers. You might be surprised to know that those that have melancholy tendencies are more expected to have stretch marks. Lack of proper nutrients that can cause stress marks, along with alterations in your environmental or physical conditions. Intake of medicines can cause scars. So you see, they’re not all about pregnancy.

Our body has two areas susceptible to stretch marks appearances: the stomach and breast area usually develop is the source of these marks as a result of pregnancy due to the rapid weight increase. Due to the process of breasts swelling and the rise of belly - the skin stretches rapidly and is not able to appropriately develop. Usually, you’ll find scars developing on areas with excess of fat deposition such as the breasts, stomach, upper arms, and thighs.

Stretch marks come into view when the brain sends the wrong orders to the skin and thus, unsatisfactory amounts of elastin and collagen are developed. Elastin and collagen plays a central role and serve as the connective tissue of the skin, also when the connective tissue breaks apart. When this happens, the result is stretch skin marks.

Not only woman suffer from stretch or striae marks. Men and women develop them irrespective of their body type (fat or thin), age (young or old), and it doesn’t matter where you live or what your ethnic background is. They can strike anybody.

Stretch marks are not on the skin’s surface. They come from deep within the skin’s tissue and sooner or later make their way to the skin. Some say that they might seem to come into view almost while you sleep, but that’s in truth not the case.

How to divest yourself of them one may ask. The best resistance is to stick to products that are intended to treat stretch lines and marks, like Trilastin. Vitamin E is central element which aids to decrease the form of these skin marks. Extra moisturizing also decreases their appearance. There are various over the counter products which are fighting or preventing the form of skin stretch lines and laser therapy is an additional preference.

As we have before now stated staying well hydrated (which is exellent recommendation anyway) by drinking more than a few glasses of water is the best way to evade stretch marks, as this will assist remain the skin soft and supple. Further proposal for pregnant include the necessity to wear suitable supportive garments that are designed for pregnant ladies and fitted to your body shape. This is a bit more expensive than cheaper common maternal wear, but your body will thank you in the long run.
