The origins of the product are the first consideration. In an incredibly competitive market, it may appear that a product which has been around for decades must be a great choice. All these people using this product can’t be wrong! But keep in mind that products with longevity have the upper-hand because of brand recognition working for them. Also beware of inexpensive household names - a cheap price tag might just be the very reason a product became so popular in the first place and not necessarily its effectiveness.

Keywords such as “revolutionary” and “new technology” have quite an allure that seem impossible to argue with. You will ultimately have to decide which products work best for you, but keep in mind that every product was once a new product making new claims.

The second thing to consider is the price. A price tag can be a very good barometer of how valuable a product might be. Clearly, a cream that sells for a dollar at a drug store doesn’t hold much value or otherwise the company could sell it at nicer stores for more profit. Keep in mind that a more expensive product isn’t necessarily better, either. Confused? A good rule of thumb is to balance a product’s history along with price to help you narrow down a quality selection.

Another consideration is the retailer that carries the product. Some products aren’t available everywhere. Whether you feel that your department store carries better wrinkle creams than your pharmacy, the beauty shop products are almost always better than the discount store products. Remember that marketers are very aware of the effect that their retailers have on consumers. It is up to you to decide whether you believe that better products are only available in more exclusive stores, or if they are available everywhere because everybody loves a great product.

Finally, consider how the product is being sold and marketed. There are several sales techniques such as offering free gifts or free accessories with your purchase. Celebrity endorsements on packages are popular as well. You might consider checking to see if a product is advertised without harm to animals. Are these sales gimmicks? Or valid reasons to try a new product? A good tip is to sample a wide range of products that offer a no-risk, money back guarantee.

If you’re already working out 3 days a week, do this interval training only on your OFF days so you don’t over train. This is because your body just does not know how to burn fat and build muscle all at once. Swap between the weight training and interval training so you can get the best of both worlds. And make sure you take a day off too. We don’t want you to burn out!

Honestly though, eat your vegetables, and eat them raw if possible. Keep your protein foods high so your body can repair and recover. Snack on RAW nuts and seeds (not the salted ones!) and protein shakes / bars. Get your carbohydrates mostly from fresh fruits and vegetables. Get to know your local market and your body will thank you for it.

Hi, I’m your chiropractor, and your back called me the other day complaining about all those household chores you are doing. I know you wish I could tell you just to hire a housekeeper and bill it to your insurance company, but I guess it won’t work that way. Instead I have some helpful tips for ways to work around the house and protect your back.

At the counter: Washing dishes, chopping vegetables, even brushing your teeth– all hazardous! Scared? It’s just the counter height, it is likely not the perfect fit for your body. It should be belt level. Bend your elbows and shrug, it should reach the bottom. So either re-do your kitchen, buy some platform shoes, OR you can relieve some of that pressure by raising one leg. Not like a dog, but propped up, knee bent, on a stool. Or open a cabinet door and use the ledge to prop your leg.

Vacuuming: The upright vacuum, it’s the enemy to your back. Most people push and pull violently. This rotates your spine with your arm outstretched. This position exposes you lower back to an acute flareup. Instead focus on your arms doing the moving, and your back NOT twisting. Slow down if you have to.

Tub scrubbing: You kneel down, maybe with a cushion to protect your knees, but your back is screaming for protection. Do not lean over the tub and again reach inside. Outstretched arms = strain on the back. Get inside the tub instead.

Ceiling work: When painting or cleaning a ceiling fan, you are reaching above your head with your arms outstretched. This arches your back causing increased pressure. Use a tall enough ladder to minimize arm raising and stretching and arching.

Laundry basket: Don’t carry it down the stairs, you cannot see around it and you could fall! I sound like an overprotective grandmother, but you would not believe how many people fall down this way. Further, you are reaching out again around the basket, and by now I think I have your convinced that outstretched arms are a strain to the spine. Put your clothes in a laundry bag and roll them down the stairs.

How to lift: Nope, I’m not going to say squat. That moves your center of gravity forward, stretching out, straining the back. The healthy way to lift is to actually kneel down, with one knee on the floor and one bent, then raise up strongly.

Just a few adjustments to avoid those chiropractic adjustments.

Curing toenail fungus can be tough. Toenail fungus is one of the hardest fungal infections to treat since the fungus lives under the nail, and is thus more difficult to reach. Also, since the feet are more exposed to the warm, dark and damp environment caused by wearing socks and shoes, they are more susceptible to the infection compared to fingernails. What are the symptoms of toenail fungus?

Symptoms of toenail fungus are noticeable. You can see, smell or feel the infection once it takes hold. The most observable sign is discoloration. The infected nails turn yellow, brown and may have white patches and streaks.

In some cases, the nails turn black. There is irregularity in shape, growth and texture of the nail. It could get flaky, chipped and brittle. Also, it could become so thick that it causes pain when wearing shoes. Debris may collect under the nails and infected nails could emit a foul odor. The nails could also become separated from the nail bed.

Once these symptoms are observed, it is advisable to see a doctor immediately. It is important that you seek professional help right away so that you can proceed with the proper treatment. The earlier you start treatment, the easier toenail fungus will be to treat.

Prescription Medication - Your doctor may recommend oral prescription medication. These are effective in treating toenail fungus. However, such anti-fungal prescription medication is unsafe. In fact, the FDA or Food and Drug Administration issued out a public health advisory during May 2001 regarding two of the most popular prescription medications for the treatment of nail fungus. The FDA concluded that side effects such as congestive heart failure and hepatic complications occur with these therapies. Because of such high risks, it is wise to turn to safer and more natural methods in curing toenail fungus.

Home Remedies - A safer method is by using home remedies. Soaking the infected nails in a fifty-fifty solution of apple cider and hydrogen peroxide for 45 minutes everyday may help cure toenail fungus. Another home remedy is by using a bleach and water mix, where you soak the infected nails into the solution for about a minute for several days. However, keep in mind that these home remedies rarely work and is generally ineffective. The bleach could even irritate your skin. Relying solely on home remedies is a waste of time, making the fungus even harder to treat.

Topical Solutions - The best option would be to use topical solutions. In looking for a topical solution, make sure that you choose one that is made of natural ingredients such as essential oils found in plants. Because it is all natural, you are guaranteed that it is safe to use. And, don’t rely on topical creams and lotions that don’t get to the source of the nail fungus. There is a topical solution that actually penetrates and protects the nail so that it reaches the underlying cause of nail fungus.

Finally, avoid lifting heavy objects, since the strain of this act can mimic the straining in the bathroom that exacerbates the hemorrhoid issue.
