Most athletes, especially those engaged in active sports, are always looking for ways to increase the height of their vertical jump. But before you can even hope to improve your vertical leap, it helps to learn more about what it is so you can develop the best ways of increasing the height of your jump. Vertical jump is basically the ability to raise your center of gravity higher than the floor and in the vertical plane, using your own muscles alone. Simply put, it is a measure of how high you can jump or elevate off the ground from a standing position.

Coaches and fitness experts typically measure vertical jump as part of the parameters that influence the athletic performance of a certain individual. It is normal for athletes to give much attention to their vertical leap because the height of their vertical can significantly determine their success in winning over the competition.

Some athletes even brag about their vertical among themselves. Vertical leap is seen as a very important ability to develop in sports like basketball, football, track and field, and volleyball. However, it is common for many sports groups to measure vertical jumping ability as part of physical examinations.

Vertical jumping ability can be measured by asking an athlete to reach up against a flat wall with his feet flat on the floor. The spotter should then mark off the highest point that the athlete can reach while his feet are flat on the floor – this will be his standing reach. The athlete should then make several jumps from a standstill and the spotter should mark off the highest point he can reach while jumping. The distance between the standing reach and highest point reached while jumping is the athlete’s standing vertical leap. This is by far the simplest way of measuring an athlete’s vertical jumping ability. Vertical jump testing devices are also available and are already used in many colleges, universities, and professional sports organizations.

Vertical leap is a widely used metric in testing a person’s athleticism or sports performance. Athletes with significantly higher vertical leaps tend to excel in active sports like volleyball, football, and basketball. A vertical leap of forty inches or more is generally considered outstanding. Some athletes even claim recorded vertical leap heights of more than 50 inches – although these cases tend to be extremely rare. Several ways of improving vertical jumping ability have been developed, and resources are readily available through the internet and in many sports magazines, journals, and books.

There is a fairly new product on the market today for treating carpal tunnel syndrome. This CTS treatment is known as the Carpal Solution. It is claimed that the symptoms of CTS–numbing, tingling, and wrist pain, and the accompanying lack of sleep–are often relieved by the Carpal Solution in just a few days.

It’s light, thin and easy to store or travel with; making it a convenient treatment for CTS as well. Touted by its makers as the best carpal tunnel syndrome treatment, the product is claimed to be safe, effective and powerful enough to cure even advanced cases of CTS in as little as six weeks. A quick and complete cure for CTS is something which CTS sufferers have long dreamed of; a treatment which lets them relieve the pain and discomfort and finally get a restful night’s sleep free of the disturbances caused by CTS.

Another great thing about the Carpal Solution is the fact that it’s only meant to be worn during sleep. It is removed during waking hours. This means that if you’re someone with an active lifestyle or very demanding job you won’t have any interference from your CTS treatment. This can also mean that you don’t have to miss work or miss a competition if you’re an athlete.

This CTS treatment promises to make surgery, drugs and cortisone injections for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome obsolete. This would save CTS sufferers untold time and money and prevent them from facing the risks of an unsuccessful carpal tunnel surgery. With the Carpal Solution, there is also no risk of muscle atrophy setting in, since the product isn’t as restrictive as are many wearable CTS treatments which completely immobilize the area.

With these benefits and seeming to have many advantages over other CTS treatments, it seems that many people would gladly choose The Carpal Solution over drugs, surgeries and other treatments. That is, they would if it works for them – it has to be said that The Carpal solution will not work for every CTS sufferer. Since it works on the same basic principle as night splints (which don’t work for everyone), then it stands to reason that for some, this product won’t offer the cure. However, there are exercises which you can perform which can cure your CTS. They’re safe, effective and free – and these exercises can offer anyone a permanent CTS cure.

Celiac disease, also called celiac sprue, nontropical sprue, and gluten-sensitive enteropathy, is a condition that causes an extreme reaction to the ingestion of gluten. When someone with celiac disease consumes gluten, the immune system overreacts and damages the small intestine.

This condition is often diagnosed in infancy and childhood, but may not be evident until later in life. The most common symptom of celiac disease in children is irritability. Other common symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Before eating foods containing gluten, an infant with celiac disease may have normal growth and digestion. Infants with celiac disease may experience diarrhea, projectile vomiting, poor weight gain, distended abdomen, decreased growth rate, and irritability after they begin to consume foods containing gluten.

Children with celiac disease may have poor appetite and poor growth. The symptoms of celiac disease may temporarily subside during adolescence and become problematic again in early adulthood.

The only known treatment for celiac disease is to follow gluten-free diet. If a child is diagnosed with celiac disease, it is often beneficial for the entire family to follow gluten-free diet. This prevents the child from being exposed to foods containing gluten in the home and may reduce stress on the parents caused by needing to watch the child’s intake of food at all times.

Parents of a child with celiac disease may worry about the child attending school. Children with celiac disease are exposed to food containing gluten in the school cafeteria and possibly snacks or student birthday celebrations.

The parents should discuss the child’s need for a gluten-free diet and the diagnosis of celiac disease with the school nurse, dietitian, and the child’s teacher. Some parents often find it helpful to discuss the child’s needs with the principal. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), schools must provide children with celiac disease gluten-free food.

The child will need to follow a gluten-free diet for their entire lives. Gluten is present in foods containing wheat, rye, and barley. Some foods that are not associated with wheat, barley, or rye may contain gluten such as lunchmeat and frozen potatoes.

Parents will need to educate their child about following a gluten-free diet. Parents can gradually give children more responsibility for following a gluten-free diet and teach them how to read food labels and identify which foods contain gluten.

Most of us know at least one person who has been diagnosed with depression. Maybe you think that you may have depression? Do your emotions fit the criteria for depression? Clinical depression affects millions of people. Understanding what depression is can be a first step towards getting the right help. Let’s look at some of the facts.

All of us experience blue moods once in a while. We all experience feelings of sadness. It is just a normal part of going through life. When those blue moods turn into a dark heavy persistent cloud, and when those sad and hopeless feelings become your predominant feelings, you may indeed be suffering from depression.

Depression is not a mood that can be alleviated by will power. Depression is a mental disorder that can change how you think. It changes your outlook on life and the future. It affects your beliefs and how, and if, you want to interact with others.

So how can you tell the difference between actual clinical depression and normal feelings of sadness. Essentially it’s about intensity and time. The feelings associated with depression are much more intense. Your character and your ability to cope with reality become severely affected. It becomes almost impossible to function on a daily basis.

Two weeks is typically the threshold for diagnosing depression. If after a negative life experience you are still withdrawn and sad after more than two weeks it is possible you have entered into a depressive episode. Without treatment a depressive episode can last for months, sometimes years.

The great news is that depression is very treatable. Traditionally, a combination of therapy and medication is really quite effective. Today an entire range of alternative therapies have shown impressive results at relieving even long standing, serious depression. Some alternative therapies very effective for the treatment of depression are: Emotional freedom Techniques, Tapas Acupressure Technique, Chi Gung, nutritional supplements and a simple thing such as walking are just a few examples.

Depression can happen to anyone. It is not an affliction of those who are weak. Strong people can get depression as well. if you suspect that you may be suffering from depression, remember, the sooner you get help, the sooner you will feel better.

Have you ever wondered why every visit to a doctor’s office, hospital, clinic, or any other health related place always begins with a check of your blood pressure?

High blood pressure or hypertension, also known as the “silent disease” or the “silent killer” is the measure of the blood’s pressure against the wall of the arteries as the heart pumps.

Many people walk around every day with dangerously high blood pressure without ever knowing it because often times there are no symptoms for weeks, months, or even years.

But high blood pressure is a dangerous condition and complications can be very serious. You see, as the heart pumps the blood through the walls of arteries that have lost their elasticity, the heart has to work much harder to push the blood through them.

Because the blood needs to go through every organ in the body as well, the pressure affects not only the arteries, but the heart, liver, and lungs every important organ in the body.

Since the arteries need a higher pressure to maintain the flow of blood, all the other organs suffer from the extra surge of blood needed to maintain those weakened arteries.

Complications of Hypertension can be life threatening.

You may feel perfectly fine while your body is on the verge of a stroke, heart attack, dissection of the aorta, kidney failure, or irreversible heart damage.

Medication can control high blood pressure, but a healthy lifestyle and preventative measures are certainly the keys to wellness.

There are many things that you can do to control and lower hypertension. First is to avoid too much salt. Diets lower in salt have been seen to benefit many people particularly those with high blood pressure.

Number two is to exercise regularly. This will help the body in so many ways, one of which is to lower blood pressure. For those who are obese, losing a few pounds can have a very positive effect in lowering blood pressure.

Many people have looked at alternative measures and there are reports that some of these alternative ways produce a wide range of results. Possible relief of hypertension has been said to be found in a variety of practices including acupuncture, aromatherapy, massage therapy, qigong, yoga, and shiatsu.

One area of relief that most of the medical community will agree on is simple relaxation. Stress has been identified as one negative factor affecting one’s blood pressure so it would be wise to evaluate the things that may be causing stress in your life and finding other ways to deal with those issues.

No matter what solutions you choose or the available options you try, one thing is for sure, controlled blood pressure is vital in maintaining a healthy body that will see you well into your senior years.

The sooner you become conscious of your blood pressure levels and start practicing a lifestyle that will keep them lowered, the sooner you will start enjoying health benefits that will last a lifetime!

My high blood pressure program can help even if your blood pressure already exceeds normal limits. Following a few simple exercises will bring your numbers down easily in a completely natural way and often within a week.

Acai berry is a fruit that looks like a grape but the size is much lesser. This small sized fruit has lots of nutritional principles. Not only does the Acai berry diet help you in remaining fit and healthy, it also helps to give you all the medicinal values as well.

Acai berry diet cleanses your body from any harmful toxins that are present in your body and you also a get a good night sleep after consuming the great fruit in the course of time. This is why Acai berry is considered to be the miracle fruit of the planet.

The dark purplish berry, which has a bitter taste to it, has only lately started to be noticed and used by consumers outside of the Amazon, despite it being consumed for millennia by the native peoples of the Amazonian basin. A vast array of internet retailers are starting to sell Acai Berry diet items which are targeted for the weight loss market, and as a result the Acai Berry diet has become an instant success.

As well as this, the Acai Berry diet has plenty of glucose and fibre, both helping enormously in a weight loss routine. What’s beneficial about fibre is that it quashes ones appetite and hunger alongside reducing the fat from food that is taken in, whilst by fuelling the metabolism for longer weight loss and energy for exercise. Essentially therefore, what is inspired is turned healthier, and what’s more you’re a lot more likely to get rid of the excess energy you have by exercising.

But there are some problems. The internet is home to scam sites that take unwitting customers money by registering them up to unadvertised monthly subscriptions. As a result, its best to have an in-depth look at what you’re about to buy, and the most competent way to carry out this research is using Acai Berry blogs. Blogs like this offer Acai Berry facts which are neutral, together with advice on avoiding scammers and advice on incorporating the Acai Berry into diets.

The large majority of the bodys joints, including the elbow, are capable of producing what are known as accessory movements, small sliding and gliding movements occurring inside a joint which a person cannot perform on their own. Accessory movements are vital for the normal use of a joint and are easily disrupted, limited or abolished by trauma or postural bodily misuse. The elbow accessory movements are very limited in size and consist of a small sideways gapping of the joint, which does not make a large difference to the ability to achieve various positions with the hand but does increase functional ability.

These small movements may not look like they contribute much to the function of the elbow joint but they can. As we adjust the arm to grip something effectively the added movements of the elbow allow a slight lengthening of the wrist extensor muscles at times. A small amount of tension on a muscle enhances its ability to contract and increases its effectiveness, in this case the extending of the wrist so that the hand is in the right position for the strength of the grip to be applied.

Should the opposing muscle group, the flexors, dominate then the extensor muscle origin can become shortened and tight to a degree, limiting the ability of the extensor muscles to adapt wrist positions for useful holding and gripping. The radial head, normally rotating in its radial ligament, confers the precise positioning required to allow the hand to be placed and used in a huge variety of positions.

The two dominant movement patterns we perform again and again every day for hundreds of repetitions typically are turning the forearm over so the hand is palm up and pulling the wrist back with the palm down. Both the main muscles which are concerned with these very common actions originate from the same anatomical location on the outside of the forearm near the elbow. Overuse of these muscle groups can lead to increased tone in this lateral compartment of the elbow, causing shortening and loss of elasticity of the tissues. A cycle of tightening, muscular compensation and further tightening can develop.

If the arm is used for many actions and over some time in a bent position so the wrist is extended and the elbow flexed this can cause a mechanical disadvantage as the wrist extensors are slackened off and so can exert less force. A typical activity of this sort is piano playing and use of a computer mouse. If the muscles have to continually try and recover from ongoing posture stresses which persist for a long period they can shorten close to their origin. With time this sets the elbow up for the small event which will be the last straw and alter the achy, annoying problem into an acute, terrible pain.

Tennis elbow is a common condition and typically develops as described above. It can come on acutely out of the blue after someone does an excessive amount of work, stressing the elbow very heavily and causing local injury and inflammation. More commonly there is a slow and longer term development of problems followed by a more sudden acute episode as a sudden stress is applied. Playing the backhand stroke in tennis is a particularly troublesome action to stress the common extensor origin but many other actions can produce the same result.

If the muscles are over tight and the muscular action forces are pulling the opposite way as we grip or hold something, there may be an overstress of the tendon-bone junction leading to some of the local tissue fibres tearing away from the bone. Once this has occurred and a degree of healing followed, it becomes easier and easier to re-injure the area with less and less physical force. The healing process, involving scar formation, can also cause tightening as it contracts and lead to a further vulnerability to stretch. In serious cases the severity of the pain can be so bad that simple minor actions can be painful and so are avoided.

Did you know there’s a strong correlation between our habits, and who we spend time with? Researchers tell us that if we are regularly around someone, we start to become like them. This is usually thought to reflect in people’s opinions and attitudes; having a mutual regard for certain things, like the law or education for example.

It’s now becoming apparent as well that this common theme might extend to weight. We will eat more when in the company of good friends who eat more. A small study undertaken in America found that overweight kids and teenagers ate more when they were eating with a friend who was also overweight, than when they ate with a normal weight child.

Indeed, all the young people studied (aged 9 to 15) ate more when they were with friends than strangers regardless of their size. But the greatest calorific intakes were observed when overweight chums snacked together. The results of this study revealed several key factors. It found that friends have a key function where consumption is concerned.

Candidly it’s no great revelation that many ate more when in the company of friends. That would doubtless be the same if adults had been surveyed. What’s more, as our friends don’t usually challenge what we do, we assume that means they condone our behaviour. Subconsciously we’re placing the permission ball in someone else’s court.

The study took 65 young people of mixed weights and observed them for 45 minutes. There were pairs of friends, and pairs of strangers. They were given games to entertain themselves, along with snack food, fruit and veg.

All the ones who teamed up with a friend ate a larger amount than the rest. However it was the pairs who were both overweight who consumed the most in total. And the variations were considerable, as shown below.

An average of seven hundred and thirty eight calories was eaten by overweight teens who paired with a friend. But the overweight youngsters with slimmer friends ate nearly three hundred calories less. The slimmer ones ate a fairly stable five hundred calories whatever the size of their friends. This ties in with the commonly held view that in early teens many kids’ decisions to smoke or drink alcohol are strongly influenced by what their friends do.

This led the researchers to suggest that young people’s eating habits are largely determined by their social network. Yet this power of association can be beneficial, as positive influences are just as possible as negative ones. Healthy nutrition then should be part of every child’s curriculum.
